  • No bottle of more than 100ml. This includes things like toothpaste, hand cream & lipstick

There's no limit on the number of bottles you can take through, they just have to be 100ml or less

All liquids should be taken through security in one of the clear plastic bags they provide

    Hi thanks for reply.

Yep i was aware of the 100 ml limit and the plastic bag requirement, as done that when travelling with cabin baggage only.

Are the rules the same for luggage that is being checked in for the hold ?

There IS most definitely a limit:

If you do take liquids in your hand luggage:
    • containers must hold no more than 100ml.
    • containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm.
    • contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
    • see full details here:

However as far as I am aware there are no restrictions on liquids in hold luggage. The only restrictions being your own- will it spill or smash!! I tend to put all toiletry bottles in sealable bags. Bubble wrap comes in handy too.

    Thank you.

We usually book everything seperately and take cabin size cases only so we avoid the luggage carousel etc.

Have just booked a late deal package via Thomson, so as will be using their coach transfer, decided we might as well use "hold" luggage allowance as even if we avoided the carousel, would just be waiting on the transfer bus !!

This relates to hold luggage only - hope you weren't looking to take your magnetron or fireworks! - http://www.heathrow.com/departures/security-and-baggage/hold-luggage-banned-items

Well you learn something new every day!

The only time I've ever put anything in those bags (and I've seen them bursting with stuff!) was hand cream & toothpaste, along with my toothbrush.

Strangely enough they pulled it to one side & tested both the cream & toothpaste!

We fly at least two/three times a year and have NEVER had a problem with liquids in HOLD luggage {including full bottles of spirits}. As stated {and known} Cabin luggage does have restrictions but there are no restrictions {other than what is not allowed into some countries} on hold luggage.

There are no restrictions for liquid in hold luggage, (beyond whatever weight limit your carrier allows you).

I'd make sure that any liquids in hold luggage are well wrapped.

Not much fun when they leak through your entire suitcase.

I always pack bubblewrap and sticky tape for all containers of liquid. Tape the lid/.cap then bubblewrap and tape that. To date {over 25 years}never had a leak.:)
