Machine not working

LisaJ20
I have read through a number of threads/posts (especially the Newbie one) regarding this matter and unfortunately I seem to be going round in circles and I do not know how,to proceed. I think I may have already done the wrong thing by replying to the fine, but here is the outline of my issue.
I parked in the morning on a private car park and the machine was not accepting coins.
Other cars had the same problem and put a notice in the windscreen to say machine not taking coins, I did the same and went to work.
Upon my return to the car, I had a parking ticket (as had other cars) as the machine had been fixed. I took photographs of my car displaying the note, and of another vehicle in the same situation.
I wrote to the company - Parking Ticketing Limited of Ducie Street, Manchester to explain the situation, and as I work in a hospital nearby, I couldn't keep popping out to check if the meter had been mended.
They responded saying my letter of appeal was rejected and that I should have called Customer Services advising them of the problem. I doubt they will have answered at 08.10, but I will check tomorrow to see if they answer.
A POPLA appeal reference has been issued, and the parking ticket states that the company is a member of BPA.
I haven't received a Note to Keeper, just this letter of rejection.
Looking at all the template letters, I am really unsure how to proceed now, as the company obviously have my name and address as Imwrote to them in shock and disgust - how can it be right to fine someone when I wanted to pay all along but the machine was broken? Even the day before, I struggled to pay as the machine is not calibrated to take the new style £1 coins.
Any help would be gratefully received.

just draft a popla appeal based on the advice in post #3 of the NEWBIES sticky thread , and ensure it is submitted before the 28 day deadline
this is an unregulated insutry , so they can do as they please on private land, including issuing an invoice (not a "fine") for alleged rule breaking0
