House Seller Gone AWOL

Hi All,

Buying a house and have a bit of an unusual situation:

I had an offer accepted on a vacant flat just over a month ago, offer was accepted quickly. I then set the wheels in motion; instructed solicitor and got mortgage offer - Seller decided to go with Estate Agents recommended Solicitors, so MOS was issued.

Here is the strange bit.... Nobody has heard from the seller for over a fortnight, when he told the EA that he hadn't yet received forms from the solicitor. I should point out that he lives abroad and the posted keys to EA in the UK. I am fairly confident that the estate agent has been ringing/ texting/ emailing regularly with no response.

This sale should go through quickly, I am a first time buyer and the property is vacant. I have almost lost hope of the sale going through, but am confused as to why the seller wouldn't pick up the phone and say he isn't selling if that is the case (Especially as the agents have his keys!)

Has anyone had any experience of this, or any advice for someone in my situation?

Thanks!

Are you and your solicitor absolutely sure that this property belongs to the seller?
