Combi boiler too noisy!

Our boiler is in my daughters room. It is about 8 years old and the usual humming noise it makes has never bothered her before., I think she has got used to it!!
However, now when you run the hot water and then turn the tap off it seems a lot noisier. As well as the much louder humming noise which goes on for about 2 mins after the tap has gone off, there is a lot of other creaky humming noises. This is now waking my dd up at about 5am when my partner has to get washed for work.
As it actually hasn't broken down I'm assuming British Gas Homecare won't come out. Do you think I need to worry as it all works OK but just noisier!

I may be wrong (sure someone will correct me if i am!) but it sounds like the fan to me...it may just need cleaning out or the bearing gone. If you get it serviced it may well fix it.

Will I have to pay extra for British Gas to come out do you think or is it covered on the policy?0

Hi just tell them you are concerned at the noise its making as it hasnt been doing it before. If in doubt just ask them if it is covered by your policy.Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(

Tell them its in a bedroom and tell them your concerned about noise from it and think its the fan.
If you do not have one already then i would strongly advise you fit a carbon monoxide alarm in the bedroom with the boiler as a matter of urgency.0 -
BG will come out but it doesnt sound like its a problem with the boiler
Are any of your taps leaking? even the smallest drip can manage to draw in air and therefore when you turn it on and back off a humming sound can start and continue even when the tap has been turned off.0 -
Well the noise has been driving my Daughter mad so my Dad had a look. The boiler is boxed in and when we took the front panel of the cupboard there was a puddle on the floor! So the boiler is leaking from somewhere.
We bled all the radiators - they were fine. He then re-pressurised the system and the boiler is now running quiet again. Don't really understand what was wrong though. He think the light display on the boiler doesn't work though as it is showing the boiler is constantly at 1.5 bar but my Dad said it definitely wasn't at that.
I phoned BG anyway re: the leak although I don't really know how to explain about the noise thing as my Dad fixed it!! In some ways I wish he hadn't re-pressurised the system!
Anyway BG man is coming tomorrow.
I wish I understood technical things as I'm still none the wiser at why turning a screw stops the noise!!!0 -

Thanks for the tip, but the noise is coming from the boiler not the taps or I am being daft here?0
