final rent payment end of tenancy

Myself and a flat mate moved into a new place on the 22nd of june last yr. We have decided to not renew the contract when the yr is up. when we first moved in we requested to change the day we paid the rent from the 22nd to the 1st as we both get paid on the 28th of each month. we were told this was not a problem (we had to pay a fee to make it happen though!). we paid what was called the apportionment ie the difference from the 22nd to the 1st and from then on have paid a full months rent on the 1st of each month.
Now that we are coming to move out at the end of the contract, we have just paid on the 1st of May a full months rent as usual and i have called the agent to confirm how much we will have to pay on the 1st of June ie for 21 days to the end of the contract and they have told me it will be a full rent payment!? surely if the contract ends on the 21st of the month we only to the end of the contract? the start and end date of the contract didnt change, just the day we paid rent changed.
i'm very confused and don't know if i've just worked it out wrong?!
Any advice pls

You are correct, a change of payment date does not alter the end date of the fixed term. Ask the letting agent to provide you with a rent statement.

I agree, get the rent statement. Your total needs to be 12x monthly rent and the statement will show how much you've already paid. The difference between what you've paid and 12x the rent *should* be the difference between your monthly rent and the pro-rated amount (not including fees) you paid to get the due date to align with your schedule.

Better still, draw up your own rent statement:
