Santander 123 account and Utility Warehouse

Am considering switching to Utility Warehouse for phone, electric and gas and was informed by the local rep that 3% cashback is paid across the board on the Santander 123 account as UW was listed as a Communication company. A previous thread on this forum (3 years ago) seems to confirm this. On contacting my bank for confirmation they state: We can confirm that Utility Warehouse is not currently registered as a company to offer cashback for your 123 current account but if you are still thinking about switching your direct debit to UW and wish to receive cashback, simply contact us once the DD has been debited from your account and we will consider registering the company as part of our cashback facility. On further questioning they cannot guarantee that this will be the case. Obviously it is not in my interest to switch to UW if cashback cannot be claimed on my bank account.
Has anyone else encountered this please? Thank you. Have not at this point made any decision either way.

Not sure why this would be obvious - are you saying it's only the (potential) 3% cashback that makes UW financially viable for you? Given Santander already commit to paying cashback on mainstream utility providers this would suggest it's a very fine margin that you're evaluating so why take the risk?tenorhornplayer wrote: »Obviously it is not in my interest to switch to UW if cashback cannot be claimed on my bank account.0 -

FWIW if you enter 'Utility Warehouse' here:
http://www.santander.co.uk/info/current-accounts/123-current-account-cashback-search
it says 'You could earn 3% cashback with Utility Warehouse'.Stompa0 -

It is 3% cashback for communication (phone, internet, tv), but 2% cashback for gas and electricity.
Maybe that's where the confusion comes from. Santander might not be willing to pay 3% cashback across the board for all of Utility Warehouse's services.0 -
Yes indeedy - we have our gas and electric with UW (but not mobiles etc), and we've been getting 3% cashback since we opened our 123 account. Yay.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
