Gas Valve Replacement

Hi All
Called someone out this weekend to diagnose a leak in our flat after having our gas supply turned off by the National Grid due to gas leaking from the flue. Was quickly identified that the gas valve was faulty (30 mins). Part was identified and guy went off to to collect the part (taking 2.5hrs). Came back and fitted it (1 hour) and is now charging £250 plus the cost of the part (£120). Does that seem fair?
Thanks in advance!

You need to read their t&c's mine state a max of 45 mins for collection of goods, I would have charged for 1 hour for the 1st visit because that's my min charge, then 45 mins for part collection then 1 hour for the fitting, you should have confirmed their hourly rate before either phoning them or agreeing to them fixing itI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
The price does seem excessive. I would have expected to pay les than £50 an hour outside of London, but you have accepted their terms by not asking their rate beforehand. That said, you might have some success if you ask for evidence that that is their standard rate. Is 2.5 hrs travelling time reasonable for the distance they had to travel? Did you discuss the idea of getting the part delivered and them returning a day later, or did you want it fixed that day?The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
