Buildings Insurance for 2nd Home Occupied by non-rent Paying Son

Hi,
Having a little difficulty finding buildings insurance for our second home (mortgaged) which will be occupied by our son during his time at university. We are not taking rent from him so landlord's insurance is not apt but normal cover requires the property to be the policy holders' main place of residence (which it will not be).
Spoke to our broker today but they were unable to assist as it is a bank holiday. I will try them again tomorrow but thought I'd try here in the meantime.
Thanks.

The first place you should try is whoever covers your main residence, also try your local broker (Avoid Swintons).
The other markets for this can be Aviva via a broker as they tend to not offer cover for this type of risk direct.
There are Insurers who will offer cover via a landlords policy.
As your broker has advised you, this type of risk needs to be refered to the Insurers so there is not a lot that can be done on a bank holiday0 -

As above try your existing provider.
The stumbling block will be the fact he's a student, otherwise it's permanently occupied by family which would be fine for a lot of insurers.
If existing says no try someone like Endsleigh, who run student schemes.0
