To be honest when my husband died and we lost his wages I couldn't afford to pay the mortgage alone so losing the house and moving in to rented where I would have received housing benefit would have been more favourable than being tied to a house full of bad memories and no chance of moving because my credit file has been ruined.

Nobody is judging you!
You asked a question and you seem not to like the answer.
I can only sympathize with your situation and cant imagine what that was like for you. I hope things get better for you.
The information you have been given, as much as it doesn't help your situation is correct. The CRA's do not take in to account of the reasons behind the information they hold.
Again nobody is judging you, everyone here has tried to help you even if some personalities on here are different than others. Its one thing ive grown to accept and now often find it funny rather than getting my back up.
Hope things work out :beer:0 -
Ok this might sound brash.
I work for a bank , and the golden rule is pay your mortgage and household bills, the lender would have informed you how it would effect your credit history, so it will take time to improve, it isn't going. To happen overnight.
In my personal experience , What tends to happen People are yhappy to pay your credit cards , loans and Car Finance - and don't get there priorities right.
It your case the lender had been overly generous, and allowed an arrngmenr to repay for as long as it had, most lenders aren't that flexible and expert any arrears to be clear within 6 months , not years0 -

Surely he had life insurance which should have paid the mortgage? It was a requirement of my mortgage that me and the wife have life insurance sufficient enough to cover the outstanding amount. In the event of one of us dying it covers the outstanding balance so the other isn't left with a mortgage to repay on their own. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
