Nationwide Regular Saver Eligibility

I have a question on Nationwide eligibility and cannot find an answer on their website.
I have two Nationwide Flexdirect current accounts, one in my name and one joint account with my wife.
I have a 5% regular saver account and wanted to confirm that my wife can also open one through the joint account eligibility or does she need to open a sole account in her name first?

She does not need to open a sole account, as she is eligible by virtue of the joint account.
However, I do vaguely remember that if one tries to open a regular saver when logged into a joint account, it will revert to opening the saver as a joint account. I'll see if I can dig the info out. There must be a way around it.0 -
Hi badger09,
Thanks for this and offering to look up the work-around. If the new regular saver account is a joint account wouldn't this in effect mean that I have two regular savers which is not allowed by Nationwide?0 -
WOW, and I thought my memory had gone:p

Yes
Looks like a branch visit is needed. You could always call them for confirmation.0 -

Thanks again. You may be right although there is usually a knowledgable MSE here with a definitive answer.
Oh, I have just seen your second post and I will definitely give you a HIGH 5 !! 2012. I was a regular on the NatWest forum before it closed last year and it was scary to find my posts from earlier years that I had forgotten I made!
I have also just realised that I need an answer to the same question on Santander.0 -
We have a joint account with Nationwide Flexaccount, also with their Loyalty Saver account.
As I'm the one who does the banking, I am the first name on the on-line account, my O.H. is not registered separately on-line.
As we were thinking of opening the flexiclusive 5% savings account each, I had an on-line chat with Nationwide. It seems to be that my O'H. needs to be registered on-line so he can get the flexiclusive account in his own name.
Our nearest branch is over 20 miles away so that's out.

Thanks Sally,
Does this mean that if your OH registers online then you can both open Flexclusive Regular Savings account?0 -

At the time of my earlier post (2012) both my husband and I were registered for online banking. However, had one of us tried to open a Flexclusive regular saver online, the account would have automatically opened as a joint one.
The position might have changed since then, so, if a branch visit isn't convenient, contacting Nationwide either by phone or secure message would seem the obvious answer.0 -
Thanks badger09,
Secure messages sent.0 -
RG2015, I'll be interested to know how you get on.
sometimes you can get differing answers from different lines of enquiry.
I won't be able to sort out anyway until June at the earliest.0
