"It was a stunningly simple ruse: The cybercriminals behind the Bangladesh heist used malware to steal bank codes and place fake transfer orders, according to people familiar with the incident.
The attacks also have threatened the trust that banks have had for decades in Swift, a cooperative that runs the international messaging service among banks. Banks use the service to instruct each other what to do, making Swift the lifeblood of the global banking system, where trillions of dollars flow between banks each day."
Funny or not, my department manager had a rental car. It blew up! Apparently the terrorist thought their target was the owner, when he/she was just renting it, and my manager was the next rental customer. This is in the IRA days.
I feel more vulnerable than when the IRA was bombing London left right and centre. If I die from a bomb, I don't have to worry about it any more. If they steal my money, I have to eke out my days in poverty.

I think that western banks will have far tighter security on their networks than those in developing countries and hopefully this will have been a wake up call for those banks who don't have the security in place. I didn't read the article but from memory this was last year.
I have no idea whether your notes about the IRA are related in some way to this story.0 -
As in horrible things can happen to anybody, and does,
but I dread being poor more than dying by terrorism.
Non-stop scams, these days.
Sunday Times yesterday, Money section, front page, Jonathan Keates. Lost £120k.
No man and his sheep is safe. I check all my accounts daily now.0 -
I've always checked my accounts daily, very quick and easy with today's banking apps. I am getting a little OCD with them now, though.:(As in horrible things can happen to anybody, and does,

Anything I say in no way constitutes financial advice and anything you do is your own decision.0

Apps are instruments of the devil. Mobile phones are stolen all the time.
This might sound like one-up manship, but I have a separate computer for the more secure stuff. The burglar last year took two laptops, but left the cumbersome tower PC. Thank God.
If it's easier for you to log on, it is easier for the thief as well.
A USB powered anal probe that scans your bottom will be the next in-thing.

Me too, and another which never, ever, has any physical connection to the internet. The only way I could think of that would keep my family history data safe.A USB powered anal probe that scans your bottom will be the next in-thing.
Well the hardware technology is already available, use your favourite search engine to find "5M USB Endoscope" (NOT actually recommended to be placed in any body part!)
All we need to do now is wait for the Devil to get the supporting app finished

Sounds like soemthing you're looking forward to.
Finger print security means they cut off your fingers.
Retinal scan means they gouge out your eyeballs.
I hope the criminals will have limits on extracting my intestines.
Also, it's far too messy and smelly to carry around.
Facial recognition is funny, don't they just take a picture from Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat, enlarge on a printer, and put it in front of the camera?0 -
So long as they don't get the probe confused with the facial recognition system, or would elbows have something to do with it?0
