O/S Daily Thread for Monday 1st May

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all
Pinch punch and all that.
Lovely to see new posters joining us and some returning to us after a gap.
It's a sunny start on the cut but it's meant to get overcast and chilly by mid morning.
This means that just a Captain Hot Stuff surfaces to paint the roof of the boat, it will start to rain!
Roast chicken for lunch today, I was going to cook it yesterday but CHS had offered to help another boater swap his black water (poo) tank for a larger one and it took longer than expected.
We still have to boil our water at the moment, but it's not too much of an inconvenience as we have a couple of big bottles of water from the Supermarket.
I'm back at work tomorrow so I can fill the bottles there and bring them back with me, CHS has the rest of the week of, he is supposed to be getting work done on the boat, but actually I think he will spend most of his time helping the neighbours as he is gaining a reputation for being knowledgeable about DIY and helpful.
The kettle is whistling so I'm going to make a cuppa and drink it watching the rabbits in the field.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning Hester and all to follow,
Wet and miserable bank holiday here it started raining yesterday afternoon and has not stopped since, it did make for a cosy afternoon though as we lit the fire and flopped on the sofas either reading or surfing the net it was a real lazy afternoon which is sometimes much needed.
Off too work for me today which is not too bad as there will be no clients in today as they don't work bank holidays and the weather will keep most customers away.
House is in quite good shape was cleaned throughout yesterday and the beds changed so only basic tidying to do today, OH can cook dinner I have just got some meatballs out so nice and easy.
Meant to say yesterday its my sisters garden that has the rats and not her house :rotfl:
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone.
Thanks for thread HH.
Yesterday was a non-event as I spent most of on the sofa or in bed asleep. I've woken up with a very thick throats so I'm not sure any if that resting did any good.
I upset myself by watching the recoding of my nephews funeral from last year, not the best of ideas I know. The friends who were here last week asked for the link (it's on a unlisted YouTube channel) so I sent it to them. I won't be watching it again anytime soon.
The weather should be better here today with sunshine so I'll get out into the garden and go for a walk. I really need to get some weight off as 1) I'm too fat and 2) my sore knee is sore 3) I walk funny because of my knee which makes my back sore and 4) my shoulders are rounded. I look about 90!
I'm off to have eggs for breakfast. I enjoy my lovely yoghurt but it's not good for my nasal passages.
Later I think I'll go up to the sea lock and watch the yachts come and go. There's still the back steading to sort out.
Anyway, have a lovely Bank Holiday Monday folks.0 -
Morning All
It was quite bright when I got up but it's looking grey and threatening now. Yesterday was weird weatherwise, fairly warm but a hazy sun and really windy, thought the washing was going to take off!
Emptied another of the small raised beds yesterday, the contents of one is heavy enough for the garden waste bin so it's going to take me 8 weeks to get rid of them as the bin is only emptied every fortnight.
No swimming this morning - the pool doesn't open until 10 and I want to go to Glasgow to get some new undies, mine are getting a little religious!
Hope you feel better soon Gers.
Have a nice quiet day RR.
Hope you all have a good Bank Holiday Monday, can't believe it's May already. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks HESTER for starting. No rain forecast for us and am hoping the nithering wind of yesterday has died down a bit. It was blooming cold but it dried the bedding in record time.
I was MIA yesterday as I felt too miserable to post. The party Saturday night was ok but why has music these days to be so LOUD? The Me-Me-Me SIL lived up to expectations and I was bombarded with pearls of wisdom on how I should be coping etc and how I should swap all Mr TA's Consultant/Clinic/Scan appointments about so we could fit in a long holiday. She has absolutely no idea what it's like for us and I was ready for flooring her. The younger SIL totally ignored me and kept giving me evil glares. Quite what I have done I don't know as she hasn't been in touch since Xmas either. What a pair they are. Thank goodness for his DB and nice SIL and my DB and other nice SIL who offer more support than them two do.
I really must attempt some gardening this morning but if the cold wind is still with us then it will be left again. No plans on going anywhere as BH's are best spent at home with the roads clogged with daytrippers. It'll be feet up watching the snooker this afternoon for us.
Have a good day folks and welcome to the newbies/returners. I never got on to yesterday's thread so just done a quick catch up. (HUGS) to all in need and take care all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
HH Had a real giggle at the name Captain Hot Stuff I bet he loves that:D
Gers its always rotten being sick on a bank holiday hope you feel better today
Thank you for all the nice messages its good to be home
Had a day off visiting yesterday and went to a friends house for her birthday drinks which was a nice distraction. Highlight of the night though was Line of Duty finale. Feel I need to watch it again today though as I kept waking up last night with questions I don't think they answered....sad I know but it makes a change from waking up all the time with worry/stress. I need to watch it again to find out where the pregnant officer fitted in
Dad had a bad night and managed to fall out of bed :eek: I need to speak to the staff at visiting today to find out how that happened. They say he's fine but its hardly a soft carpet landing so I imagine he will be sore
Will have a tidy around today and I will probably stick my head in the freezer to find something to eat. Fortunately I have plenty in there in keep me going for a while. Not been eating much tbh so need to get into a better routine.
Hope you all have a better Bank holiday monday than I will0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Wet underfoot here, and sky rather grey, dull and dreich.
DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas, both boys still in their pits.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, cauli cheese, green beans, yorkshires and gravy. Today we'll be having pork chops, mash, peas and gravy.
Yesterday was spent visiting my parents and the outlaws, then did a small shop, did several loads of washing that dried on the line as it was so windy. I still have several loads to go, but will probably leave it until later/tomorrow if the weather doesn't improve.
We got back from our hols on Sat afternoon, was absolutely gorgeous and we loved it, we had every season during the week, but it never stopped us doing anything and our accommodation was lovely, we've already decided we'll be going back, such lovely owners and a beautiful area. Back to work with a bump tomorrow, no doubt it'll be busy as we've been closed today. We decided last Weds night that trying to come all the way home in a day was a long old haul, it's over 500 miles, and we've done that sort of distance in the past but it just leaves you exhausted the next day, so we rang the hotel that we stopped at on the way up and booked a room, so we left Friday morning and arrived at the hotel just after 2pm, so then had a break and a glass of beer/wine in the restaurant/pub next door to the hotel then booked a table for dinner in the evening, lovely end to the hols. Sat we got up and had brekkie at 7am and we'd left by 7.45am, the roads were really quiet for the first 2-3 hours.
Today we'll just be pottering about and getting ready for work tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning all,
I hope everyone had a nice weekend.
A mixed bag for me what with my football team losing to our rivals then watching a truly historical night of boxing. Pleased to have a relaxed, but late, one yesterday.
No day off for me today although I expect the day to drag in as it'll be super quiet.
Spanish lesson tonight. I'll offer to pick up the tutor as it's en route home for me. Not much else planned.
Hester - You painted such a lovely image of watching the rabbits with a hot drink. Sounds delightful.
Gers - Sending you a big hug
Camelot - Religious. I like that one, I'm going to have to steal it.
Nelski - Hope you're dad is ok.0 -
Good Morning chums and a new month ahead again, where does the time fly to I wonder.
The weather looks a bit grim outside so I shall spend the morning usefully making scones and cookies for my DGS as their hollow legs seem to need refilling quite oftenI shall also make DGS Jack his favourite Victoria Sponge cake .
Then I have a few odd jobs to do which I have been prevaricating about , only small repair jobs but fiddly all the same.
This afternoon I will watch the finale of Line of Duty as I recorded it last night. Far too wet 'n'windy to go anywhere today.Still I got all of my ironing done and dusted yesterday and even put away which is a job that I always put off for some reason .
Right, time for a cuppa and a sort out of things to be done today
Nels hope your Dad is OK, falls aren't great when you are getting on a little ,we don't bounce as we used to
T/A you have enough to cope with without grotty relations bugging you honey.
perhaps a bit of 'Hestering' maybe on the cards with CHS H/H if the weather turns rainy
Gers I hope you feel better soon, a glass of the water of life with some honey may help your throat but if not it will brighten your day up a bit
Onwards and upwards chums

Morning everyone
Thanks for starting the thread off HH, I hope that the rain holds off long enough for CHS to get the roof of the boat painted.
It is cloudy and overcast out and feels quite cold compared to yesterday. I think it is a day for staying in and having a quiet potter getting odd jobs done around the house. I did the housework yesterday so apart from a quick vacuum through there is not much to do.
I think I will go through my wardrobe and sort that out this morning and if it brightens up later I will try and clean a bit of the path in the garden it needs a good scrub to get rid of the moss that is starting to take a hold again.
I got a lamb rump steak out of the freezer for dinner tonight and had planned to have that with some salad, but in view of the weather I now feel more like doing it with some vegetables, I think I will want a hot meal today now.
TA sorry to hear that you were feeling bad yesterday, I hope that today is a better day for you.
Gers Hope that you feel better soon. Watching the yachts come and go sounds good to me, I love doing that sort of thing.
Nelski I hope that your dad isn't too sore.
I'm gong to do some scrambled eggs for breakfast now and get another cup of tea.
Have a good bank holiday Monday everyone0
