At most, half of its value forms part of the estate for the purposes of IHT.

Hi
I too have recently been in this situation, my husband died 8 weeks ago and he was the registered keeper for our car, but i was the main driver on the insurance and my husband was named driver. We also had another car that my husband drove.
I sent the V5 form with a covering letter to inform the DVLA of my husbands death, and his driving licence number, and asked them to register the car to myself.
I have now received the new V5 back registered to myself, and informing me that i do not have to tax the car until the 1st June, and that they would refund me the rest of the tax that we had paid up until 1st October.1 -

I'm sorry to hear that - thanks for the pointer.1 -

So sorry for your recent loss. Can you tell me how long it took to receive V5 and correspondence about the tax refund? I used the TellusOnce service to notify DVLA. Then I sent back V5 with a letter but not heard anything yet. It's been 5 weeks.1 -
In my xperience the DVLA are hopeless. Phone them up and ask. They have probably lost it.1

ThanksI called after 6 weeks and they said to wait another 2-4 weeks as it's not been done yet and they have opened a case.
