Energy price increase of 20%
I'm with Avro Simple and Summer, my plan ends in August so I've been looking around to see who is the next cheapest. I'm horrified to find that's the next cheapest supplier is £145 more per annum for a dual fuel switch, even cash back offered doesn't make it competitive.
Have energy prices really gone up that much or is my current deal particularly good?

Avro have been offering particularly attractive fixes, presumably to win new customers, but in the meantime, prices have gone up...

Electricity prices, in particular, have risen because of a significant increase in the Social and Environmental elements of every bill.
Have a look at the graphs at the bottom of this link:

I was on the cheapest deal for my useage 12 months back now the cheapest is 23% more expensive.
It just shows what a load of BS the inflation rate is since I would expect
Gas/electrity make up a large proportion of a households out goings.0 -
A matter of perspective, strangely enough.
As my one year fixed was exceptionally cheap, a 30% hike when it expires in June is inevitable.
For somebody who was lazy and don't switch much, it is entirely possible that prices are not bad at all.0 -

Indeed
This time last year saw some amazing deals. My fix was the cheapest of the "Big 6" by a long way and is expiring at the end of the month.
I'm using the CEC deal as it is best for me once cashback is taken into account but there's no escaping that it is more expensive than my previous fix. Still £10p/m cheaper than sticking with SP on their cheapest fix however.
