I have set up Outlook to connect to and syncronize with my Hotmail account. Until recently this worked fine.
Then on Saturday I started getting a pop up window appear when I clicked on my Hotmail inbox within Outlook. The window requires my hotmail login name and password, after I enter them the window dissapears but returns a few seconds later.
I can still get into hotmail using the web and my using my usual password.
Any ideas?

When I go to hotmail account I get told that email or password is wrong & I have to type it in a couple of times before getting signed in (no problem until the last week), also the box is different. I think it's something to do with msn/hotmail accounts but not sure what.Torgwen..........

It's most likely to be a server problem at Hotmail's end. I get this occasionally with all my email accounts. Usually, I just close Outlook and check for mail later when the problem has generally gone.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

MS were stopping accessing hotmail through outlook unless you paid a premium, not sure if this has come into effect or not yet.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

It's happening fairly soon. According to the blurb I got sent by Micro$oft
"Recently, Hotmail® announced that in order to improve customer experience and reduce spam and junk e-mail abuse on MSN® services, Hotmail will no longer allow new e-mail accounts to be accessed via Microsoft® Office Outlook® and Outlook Express."
That was on the 13th April this year, I don't know when an account is classified as new but it might be worth an email. As others in this thread have already mentioned it was probably a bad time to try and log in to the Hotmail servers.

I have had my hotmail acc on outlook express for the last 1-2 years and it has worked fine. Lately, last 2 weeks or so each time i try and collect mail I get an error message.
it says please enter your user name and password for this account, although they are both there and 'remember' has been ticked. I know they are correct as they work on hotmail if i try them manually.
Have they changed the server name where I need to collect from? I know for new acc hotmailand OE is not possible, but they said for existing ones it would be ok.
Please help

Had the same problem back then but I remember that Microsoft said that it would only be possible to use Outlook Express for Hotmail.
Anyway I use Outlook Express for the Hotmail & Office Outlook for the ISP based address & all seems to be working well so far.0 -
Just checked mine & its working ok.Try adding the account from scratch again0

Try loggin in through https://www.hotmail.com as sometimes they have a security update where you have to sign in and match the characters that they display to stop spammers using accounts0

As I kicked this thing off I thought I best update you with current situation and some further explanation.
Firstlly I use Outlook, not Outlook Express. I think I am correct in saying that there are two possibiities to "view" you Hotmail messages in Outlook or Outlook Express. Firstly you can view them without downloading from the Hotmail Server - this is what i do as I believe that Microsoft no longer allow you to directly download your mail from the Hotmail server using Outlook. You can delete messages within Outlook and Outlook will sync with hotmail to keep both accounts uptodate. I think with Outlook Express you can download mail off the hotmail server.
Secondly I after trying since Saturday and several hours yesterday emailed hotmail and an hour later I was up and running again without making any changes to my system settings. I have not had any reply from hotmail to say wht if anyting they have done but if/when I do I'll let you know.
Thanks everone for your ideas. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20
