    Whether you do well in the market has more to do with how long you're in it than how you buy, what you choose etc.

    The less time you're in it the higher the risk of a loss. Stocks and Shares ISAs, the Vanguard Lifestrategies and various ETFs should be seen as investments to be made over decades. The people who win are those who have the nerve not to sell in a downturn like we had in 2008. If you'd started a S&S ISA in 2006 and panicked in the next few years you'd have had your pants pulled down. However if you ignored and carried on you'd not only have recouped the losses but by this year seen some quite significant growth and be very happy with where your funds would be.
