Good Morning.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I cannot find an answer anywhere.
I have just gone employed with the same company who I have been mainly working for as self employed contractor for the last 15 years. I have no other work income.
I own my own van and tools and this is all new to me been employed.
At the moment I'm using my own van, fuel and tools. To which I cant claim on my self assesment now as I'm employed. I do have to file a self assesment though for my property income from my buy to let property, obviously I know I cant run all my works van costs through my self assesment now.
I would like to know how I can claim my fuel money back or any other work related costs on my van from my employer without paying tax and NIC on it.
I would like a simple business fuel card but after reading up on things it doesnt look that simple.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Your employer could pay you a mileage rate within HMRC limits for business miles (45p per mile for first 10,000 and 25p per mile thereafter).

However it's their choice whether they would do that. If they don't then you can claim tax relief instead.

Do they offer or have the fuel cards for others who use own vans for work ?0
