nPower - Worth the Move?

Hey Everyone,

Like most people here, I've started to become so energy conscious and have just got into the habit of changing energy suppliers every year or so to get the best deal. I reckon I've saved hundreds by doing this and can't believe I haven't done it earlier (eON have been ripping me off big time). However, my current energy suppliers fixed term contract is coming to an end and the next big supplier who is the cheapest is nPower.

I just needed some confidence or clarification from people out there, is it safe to switch to nPower?
From reading reviews out there, i'm on the verge of making a split decision whether to go ahead and make the switch or whether to pay the extra £80 or so with another supplier.

The reviews I've found have been very alarming, I don't exactly want to switch and then start receiving unexpected high bills, or at worst bailiffs at the door. I've heard the bills are still getting generated wrong? Has these problems been resolved? Also is it true they can break into your home just like that if they want to change meters and all? I couldn't believe what I have been reading on different forums.

Kind Regards

nPower don't get the best of reviews, but an awful lot has to happen before any energy supplier would resort to the measures you mention and it would be very difficult for you not to be aware of the situation.
Don't feel you have to be confined to the big 6 just for some sort of customer service. I'm a regular switcher and have jumped between various big 6 companies and lesser ones.
Most suppliers of any size have feedback on somewhere like here. Just remember people are unlikely to give feedback if everything went as expected, only when something goes wrong.
If you're a regular switcher, you'll know the process. It's always worth keeping your own copies of readings submitted (regularly) and calculating your own costs if the supplier only produces statements quarterly or similar.
You presumably are aware of the pitfalls with estimated readings, and the OFGEM mandated method comparison sites use to calculate your future costs and possible "savings", which are totally unrealistic for someone in your position.
Shop around, don't necessarily go for the cheapest, but don't be afraid of the small companies, just do a bit of research.

Why this fixation with the Big 6 ? Have you put your consumption through this forums Cheap Energy Club.

All suppliers are capable of messing things up - not just the Big 6 - but many of the small suppliers have good feedback, just don't expect sophisticated websites and customer service.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

It's the same electricity coming through the same cables, no matter who you choose as a supplier.
So it's just as safe ... or dangerous.
