... ahead of proposed tax changes / fees / charges?

I'm worried that with all the current talk of the damage that diesel does to the environment, my car value could fall dramatically, and so am considering changing for petrol, now.

I know in some ways this is a 'piece of string' type question, but just looking for some insight into what others think about this... should I make the change or should I not let it worry me and keep running my current car, bearing in mind 1 of the main drivers behind this is the diesel issue (there is an insurance reduction too, but thats secondary)

    Thanks, guys

What car do you have? I reckon it's pretty badly effected already. How about i be really generous with you and give you £1000 for it now, enable you to get as much as possible before it's worthless..?

If you already own the car, then it's unlikely to make sense to change it in order to save the tax. If you're trading into a dealer you'll probably lose £2k in the transaction + whatever increase the new car costs.

It might make sense if you can change from a £495/year to £0/year for under about £1k but that's a real edge case.
