U on Credit File

British Gas put a late payment marker on my credit file for a bill that never existed in the sum of £163.00. After a lot of complaining they agreed to remove the negative marker and now my file is showing the same balance of £163 for March and April this year but instead of showing a 0 for up to date they have put U instead which apparently means no information. I wanted them to put a 0 for balance and 0 for up to date which is what it was before they damaged my file. They say to show their outstanding balance of £163 (even though I was never billed for that amount) and a U on my credit file does not mean its negative. Is it okay or is it negative? I don't know about these things so would appreciate any help. Thank you.

A U is neutral.0

Is that still considered negative because it doesn't say up to date?0

I had a credit card stolen in 2014 and Smile Bank opened a new credit card and closed my old one (backdating the opening of the newer one to the date of my old one). The old one is still listed on my file however, and had a balance of £600 as the final listed amount with a U next to it on the date it closed. I have a great credit rating so hasn't affected me.Anything I say in no way constitutes financial advice and anything you do is your own decision.0
