AA Saving account opening sort code checker wrong

Hi ,
I just tried opening an Account on line with the AA. When I entered my Santander Sort Code AA identified this as "Abbey National PLC".


I tried talking with the AA Savings team but they are closed.


Anyone else had this issue ?

Most probably because Santander took over the Abbey National in around 2003.
The Abbey National was formerly a building society which converted to a bank in late 1980's.
I'm sure Wikipedia will tell you more.....

HSBC's sort code is for the Midlands Bank. A bank they bought and rebranded to HSBC many years ago.

Wikipedia's Sort Code article is also interesting to look at, It lists the current owner of the sort codes plus their old owners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sort_code
