Yes, but a farmer I knw swears by drilling holes in the stump and pouring in creosote. If you have some in the garage leftover it'd be MSE....Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I think I'll pop over to my father-in-law's as he's got loads of creosote.
Thanks for the tip0 -
Hello Whits
The gardening experts might have some more tips for you so I'll move your thread to the 'Greenfingered' board.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

Creosote might do it as may any hydrocarbon based product, it is after all toxic.
I would be concerned how well it degrades and what it leaves in the soil though.
Deep Root from Growing Sucess will certainly do it and products like this tend to be bio degradable. Used it myself and similar products on leyllandii that i inherited and got shot of.0 -
Just a word of warning folks - creosote has been banned by the EU (they seem to ban everything that works).0

Looks like I'm off to buy some Deep Root and forget all about the cresote :rolleyes:0

There was a post about this about 2 years ago, on the OS board, can't find it now though
Anyway, someone said to cut the bushes to the ground, cover the stumps with salt then cover over with some soil (to stop the salt washing away in the rain I think?)Bulletproof0
