Yes, there is. But not big enough to lose a car in.

You'd be surprised at how big that blind spot is!

Or look at this video of the driver's-eye view from a truck.

The traffic lights at 1:42 give a good indication of how a car might be visible even in that "blind spot"

As a holder of a HGV license I'm well aware how incredibly small that blind spot is.

Watch from around 3 minutes, the truck driver effectively loses a car in that blindspot. He can't see it directly or by any of the main mirrors.
The only way he can see it is through the lookdown proximity mirror & the view you get from that isn't anywhere near the best due to it being a wide angle mirror, made even worse during rain where it gets covered in spray.

Also, the MAN truck above (& the Scania in AdrianC's link) aren't particularly tall cabs... a Daf 105/XF, Merc Actros, Renault Magnum for example are considerably taller which increases the size of that blindspot.

The OP is claiming he was well AHEAD of the truck, remember? Not next to it, behind the cab.

Not exactly what he said though is it?

but I'm contesting this because as far as I'm aware I was ahead of the lorry

But that wasn't the only thing he said...

So I was on the right hand lane of a slip road, the road merges to the left and so I followed the car in front doing about 20-30mph but traffic had began to build up which left my car at an angle (because the road markings filter traffic into 1 lane), a foreign lorry (Left hand drive) then came speeding down and hit my car on the nearside and because of the impact it made my car turn and he then hit my passenger door and sent me flying into a stationary car.

Apart from the mind-bogglingness of not being sure if you were ahead of the truck or not, try to make sense of that longer description without him being ahead.

Well the way I read it the lorry came 'speeding' down, so the OPs car was in front of him well ahead of the blind spot.

It might be unfair of me, but I see people decide to cut in front of trucks all the time, at a point when I would not myself. And this does rather read as one of those occasions.

Worth pointing out that its a LHD lorry in the crash so the blind spots are reversed - much bigger on the right.

I don't need too, bugslet has done it for me :)

As I said earlier in the thread, none of us were there... we don't know!
I was merely pointing out that a blind spot exists & that you can lose a car in it under certain circumstances.
