N&P Direct Debits

It would appear Norwich & Peterborough Building Society are not handling the transfer of direct debits correctly.
So if you have any that you think should've transferred over in the switching process, check, as you'll probably find they haven't been, and you'll get landed with bounced DD fees.
After speaking to one company, they explained that every single N&P customer of their's has not had the transfer correctly completed, and they are inundated with bounced DDs. Mine is also going to bounce, despite trying to pre-empt the situation, but I missed the DD request date for the next payment.

I'm not sure that's N&P's fault, it's the responsibility of the new bank you're joining to make sure any DDs are set up correctly, it's not the responsibility of the bank you're leaving.
N&P aren't members of the Current Account Switching Service so the process won't be as smooth as if they were. Basically, all they will do is tell your new bank which companies you had DDs with and the new bank will then set up the DD at their end. The companies are, presumably, informed automatically through the AUDDIS system.0 -

I was told in no uncertain terms by this financial company, that it is 100% N&P's fault, as every customer has had a failed DD since switching. No matter which bank they've gone to. Yes we all know N&P aren't part of CASS, but the manual switch should be just as seemless albeit a longer process, and it's something that N&P have failed to do that have caused the DDs to fail.0 -
So raise complaints with the new bank, N&P, and the DD originator, asking for copies of all ADDACS/AUDDIS correspondence. That way you'll be able to place blame (and obtain any compensation due).I was told in no uncertain terms by this financial company, that it is 100% N&P's fault, as every customer has had a failed DD since switching. But, my understanding (for a non-CASS switch) is that N&Ps sole responsibility is to provide the DD information to the new bank. The new bank then approach the DD originators to make the change. So if it's N&P's fault it must be that they either did not provide the correct information, or didn't provide it at all.
Is my understanding not correct?0 -

The manual switch isn't just a slower version of the CASS process, so it's very prone to mistakes. Eliminating those mistakes was one of the goals of CASS. I don't see how this financial company can know that failed DDs on switching are caused by N&P as it isn't N&P who switch them. As YorkshireBoy says, all N&P do is to send the details to the new bank.0
