did anyone have trouble with debit cards?

Hi

Yesterday both my hubby and I had difficulties with our debit cards yesterday in different shops, the shops said that all transactions on solo and maestro cards were being declined, luckily for us we had our cheque book with us to continue our purchases.

Did anyone else have this problem yesterday?

Also would it be right for us to complain to the bank about the situation?
