extractor fan/hood

Hi, I purchased online an extractor fan/hood which looks fab but now it has been put up it looks awful! Black and large! A big mistake! The problem we have is that the supplier refused to take it back. It was delivered on 20th March and only just recently been put up (over 30 days has lapsed).

Are there any advice on what we can do? Looks like we have no choice but to take it down and get something else but sell the ugly one.

We used a credit card to pay for it if that makes any difference?

Check the seller's policies, but legally the seller is within their rights not to accept it back. There's nothing wrong with it (i.e. it does what they've said it would do), you've just changed your mind.

If sellers accept goods back outside of the statutory rights, it's usually in original condition, i.e. still packaged up so they can sell them again.

The credit card protection would apply if the supplier went bust before you got your item or if it was stolen or damaged and the supplier doesn't sort it out.

As the other poster said, you can ask but I doubt they'd take it back, especially if you've installed it. Try living with it for a while. Sometimes something new can look and feel out of place, especially if it's a big departure from what was there (or not) before. You'd be surprised how normal things feel after a short while. One of the complaints you will see here every now and then is from someone who's bought a slimline extractor that fits beautifully with their new kitchen, but isn't powerful enough to actually extract!

You cannot seriously be expecting to return an item that has not only been used, but has been fitted. Just because you now don't like it.

On what basis are you rejecting the product? The Consumer Rights Act of 2015 dictates when a retailer has to exchange the product or refund money. Theses are that its not fit for purpose ie its faulty in some way.

Just because you don't like it is not a reason to get a refund. Nor will your credit card company be interested.

I genuinely don't believe you actually think they should take it back just because you don't like the look of it.

I'm a kitchen designer and therefore know about appliances. And as someone who is knowledgeable about appliances I would never sell anyone a black cooker hood. They look horrendous in almost any design or shape. The only exception would be the odd well designed black glass one, but these are few and far between and only just acceptable in my opinion.

So to me the real mistake the OP made was to purchase their new extractor from a retailer or person that had little knowledge about appliances or just doesn't care.

it was probably to save costs. cooker hoods aren't that expensive anyway. and now it looks like OP has to fork out more for another one.

Yeah, have to agree with you there. So often happens where someone purchases something thinking they are saving a few quid, but then it turns out because where they purchased it from offers no advice they bought the wrong thing, so in the end it costs them much more!

    Try listing it on ebay.
