Great alternative to carpet

Hi
I've read lots of useful things on this board so I thought I'd register and give something back! 6 months ago we threw out an old smelly carpet from our lounge, think it was over 20 years old. We wanted a change and something slighty different. Also something I could fit myself to keep costs down. Somebody gave us a Heuga brochure with some nice patterns created with carpet tiles for use in rooms other than the bathroom. We bit the bullet and I laid it myself - there's no underlay and I just used a stanley knife to cut the tiles around the edge. It's made a huge difference to the room. Everybody comments on how nice the pattern is and it's not what they thought carpet tiles would feel like, it's just like nice carpet!
But the real saving came a few weeks ago when some wine was spilt on the floor. We had a few spare tiles left from when we fitted it - so I just replaced that bit. How cool is that? I think we'll use it in other rooms.
From what I understand, it's a new concept - but I'm now a convert and so is my sister who's 1 year old son rubbed moisturiser into their lounge carpet.... ;D
