Unrecognised direct debits

More than once I've had an unrecognised direct debit! Why companies use a different name from what they are known as is very bad business practice and annoys customers.
It would be nice if there was somewhere were the names could be listed along with who eventually the actual company is (if traced).
This week the culpret was "B S RA"
with details (I've changed them) in the form:
"27119993-240417 FIRST DDR PAYMENT DDR"
After several hours of searching I've found out that it is "Business Stream" the new water supplier for my small business. I expect it is buried in the paperwork I received but I shouldn't have to search hard. When I phoned them the agent I spoke didn't know that my account number was the first 7 digits of the reference on the direct debit i.e. 2711999
I can't recommend them as a water supplier.

Why not? You haven't criticised their ability to supply water. Is there some problem with their water supply? Or just their DD notification?
If the latter surely you mean you can't recommend their payment coding system, They may be excellent at supplying water though.0 -
Yes I can understand that it took ages to find out who it was, particularly when a Google search for "B S RA" throws up pages of "..The USB-B-S-RA is a single port and right angled type-B Receptacle Connector..."0

Agreed - having recently signed up with a new supplier whose initials are BS, and presumably having authorised a DD mandate as part of that process, it shouldn't be that difficult for a small business owner to join up the dots when a new DD appears from a company called B S....ChrisJEvans wrote: »I shouldn't have to search hard.
Most, if not all, of my bank accounts have a DD page within the online banking where I can check which DDs are set up and when they were last called, who do you bank with?0 -
