UPVC Side pedestrian garden gate- good idea?

Hello guys,
Looking forward to pearls of wisdom.
My side gate/ door to the garden is a wooden latch type construction and looks tatty- it's reddish brown and doesn't match the front door or the house.

I saw UPVC gates online and think it might be a good idea to change this to a Plastic door/gate. something like this;

Will this last as long and problem free as the current wooden one?

Is it tacky?

I am not at all sure what the etiquette on these are- don't want to risk upsetting the neighbours! eek.
Thanks as always

    I know right and I jogged past one the other day which was bought to match the door colour- It looked really good.
  • They don't look too bad in the photos but I can't help but think they'd look really tacky in the flesh.

    I'd much rather spend a bit more money on a proper ledged and braced wooden gate made by a decent joiner. Should last ages with minimal maintenance (it doesn't take long to treat a gate). You can paint or stain one whatever colour you like and change it if you get bored (painting uPVC is a horrible job and difficult to do well).

    Not sure about that; on the close ups they don't seem to have made up their mind what colour filler they're using at the joints.

    OK on a modern estate full of people who don't much care for the natural look outdoors and/or maintaining anything, but I'd not have one here ....although I do see the point of those park benches made from recycled plastic.

    Interesting product,wonder if they are a lot more expensive than a traditional wooden garden/side entrance gate?

    A local company sells plastic fencing & gates - They have a piece sitting outside, and it has been there a few years. The colour has faded, it is brittle and easy to damage. In a nutshell, looks cheap and tacky.

    Wood or wrought iron (steel) gates are the way to go if you want something to last.
