Cheap, Edinburgh & Hogmanany don't go together - I've even seen places with a 3 night minimum.
For "cheap" google "edinburgh hostels" but be prepared to share with some very drunk and noisy folk0 -
Might find a cash-short MSEer with a spare room ....?0

not to worried about the drunk and noisy people, im going to be one of them
Everywhere seems to have a 3 night min stay which doesnt bother me to much, its the room prices that bother me , £60 for a room in a hostel/ B&B
Anyone know of anything cheaper?0 -
Sorry, even during the rest of the year Edinburgh is really expensive to stay in compared to other Scottish cities.
There's a Hogmanay 'do' on in Stirling this year- the Proclaimers are playing so it must be pretty good- that might throw up a few cheaper places, but I doubt it. Supply and demand, make money while they can,I'm afraid.

I will ask my friends and relatives in Edinburgh if they would be willing to accommodate a tight-fisted drunken, noisy stranger off the internet at Hogmanay for no or little money.PasturesNew wrote: »Might find a cash-short MSEer with a spare room ....?0 -
Tenner a night at some of the Old Town hostels - and you can get the St Mary Street (1 minute drunken crawl from Royal Mile) for £26 per night per room EXCEPT in August & at HogmanaySorry, even during the rest of the year Edinburgh is really expensive to stay in compared to other Scottish cities.
You can even get £15 rooms at the Dreghorn & Musselburgh TL's and it's easy to find a B&B less than 15 minutes from Princes Street for under £50 per room per night - again excepting August & Hogmanay0 -
as said the city is packed full, most places know they can command premium prices.
consider staying somewhere like livingstone and hiring a minibus to get home0
