SSE smart meters
Evening all
I'm having smart meters installed by sse next week and I have some questions now
I've read online there are two types of smart meters around smet 1 and 2
Does anyone know what SSE are currently installing?
From what I read online it shouldn't matter as the readings go through a data centre now, can anyone advise?
I switch my plan every time the deal runs and the main reason I want one is to see how much it's costing me daily.
I always do manual readings at the start of the month so if I can't see the cost regardless of who I'm with in going to see if I can cancel it
However may be worrying about nothing
Any advice you guys could give would be appreciated
Cheers
Phil

Suppliers are not required to install SMETS2 meters until later this year. At the moment, SMETS1 meters count towards the smart meter roll out target. All SMETS1 meters will be 'adopted' by the Data Communications Company by 2020. You will then be able to use the meter with all suppliers. Until then SSE can take remote readings: if you switch to another supplier, you may have to take manual readings until the DCC adoption goes live. This is likely to require a comms hub change on all smart meters. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The meter fitted at my property by SSE early this year was , according to the fitter, Smets 2 compatible.
Which means it is Smets 1.
If you need the make and model name let me know.0 -
Sure if you can let me know the make and model that would be great then I can see what they fit
Also should the display ever go faulty who replaces it?0 -

One year warranty and then the cost of IHD replacement falls to the consumer. I suspect in time there will be 000s of these things on Fleabay. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Elstar AS 300P....property of Meter Fix 10 Ltd.
No written instructions on how to read the meter.
Have now moved to Scottish Power, monitor has switched off, so presume not Smets 2.0 -
Oh, does the monitor stop full stop, or just stops showing how much in £ and p you've used? but leaves behind the usage0

I'll plug in the monitor and see what comes up.
ps...would you beeleeve it Phil, the monitor works showing the gas and electric readings and prices etc but historical data to catch up.
Guess it took time for new supplier to link up or update software to Smets 2 standard.
Thanks for the prod.0 -

I asked BG a few weeks back about their current installation of smart meters and they did eventually confirm they are SMETS1, as expected.
When I asked them if I have them installed as a BG customer and them leave, would I still be able to see the meter readings on the IHD, even if the costs shown would obviously be wrong. The guy I spoke to said that officially he'd have to say the display would no longer work, but from our conversation, I got the impression it would carry on showing meter readings.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Could be Victor, this monitor still updating, no prices yet but meter readings and consumption is showing so presumably daily costs at old supplier rates.
Will report progress.0 -
Thanks for the info.
its more the gas reading i'm interested in if i'm honest.
I have a boiler that is probably older than me and I refuse to use it unless there are icicles on the inside of the house.
also refuse to replace as its a old back boiler so will cost mega bucks to rip out and replace lol.0
