Does a claim on temp insurance count as a claim?

So last year I bought a used van from some dodgy guy off ebay, took out 24hr day long insurance and drove it home. The next day I found out it had been stolen... so I claimed from the day insurance and got most of the money back.

It was a horrible experience and the seller blatantly did it IMHO.

Anyway does that count as a claim?

I'm asking because since then I bought another van and when getting online insurance quotes, I put down that I had a prior claim over a theft.... and my premium goes way way WAY up!

It's ridiculous and totally unfair....!

So is there any way to find out if my prior 'claim' counts or not? Anyone know anything about this?

Yes, a claim is a claim, regardless of duration of insurance cover.

Because the money could not be recovered from anyone when the van was stolen it goes down as an unrecoverable loss and affects the insurance premium similar, if not the same as a car accident when you are at fault.

The higher premium comes as you'll be perceived to be higher risk.

alright...well I was hoping there was something i missed..... sucks.

Thieving !!!!!!!s screw your life up.

An annoying aspect of this thing was the circumstances made me look like I took part in some scam over this mysterious van disappearance - but no... there's no ruse.... I'm just the guy getting screwed and shelling out.
  • A claim is a claim.

At least you got some money back to cover your loss.
I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.
