Santander bank closure have not sent my funds

Just a quick update - rang up the bank again. This time they confirmed that a cheque had been sent out on the 4th of April....!
Because it hasn't arrived yet, they are going to cancel it and send out a new one.
Not sure what to believe now to be honest, I guess I will just have to wait and see if this new cheque comes through. I'm a bit baffled as to why the previous member of their staff thought that no cheque had been sent and that I would need to come into the branch. Think they really need to sort out their information sharing etc0
