A new kind of theatrical experience comes to Hamsterley Forest this July, as the team behind Whispering Woods lash their trapezes and ropes to the forest’s ramrod-straight trees in preparation for their spectacular show, The Boy Who Grew Wings. It’s the story of a character who has a privileged life but feels empty inside. He goes off into the forest to look for a deeper purpose and comes across Aquila, a part-human, part-bird character, who lives up in the treetops. He learns from Aquila’s expertise, living the tree-borne lifestyle.
It’s a wonder, taking place way above the ground in the most stunning natural surroundings. You can read more about the story behind the Whispering Woods acrobatic tree display group in our June issue of Living North magazine, on sale on 11 May, and you can experience it yourself, because we have a family ticket to the performance on 22 July to give away.
