Used car, partly paid on credit card

in Credit cards
Hello there
I purchased a used car in August 2016 from a leading dealership and paid the deposit on a Barclaycard credit card, knowing about extra protection that this offers.
The car has now developed a serious (but intermittant) fault with the steering column, which will cost £1600 to replace.
I've contacted Barclaycard who say that they only cover the purchase for 30days, however I understood that cover was for 12months or more, but I don't have anything to back this up. I have seen information on Section 75, which seems to cover faults and defects on items purchased in whole or part with credit cards.
I need the car for work etc. so I've got to get it fixed or replaced ASAP.
Can I recover some/all of the cost for the repair or the vehicle? What is my next step - or is there a next step?
Thanks in advance

Eight months on with a second hand car?
Proving the seller is liable is pushing things. What did the selling garage say when you mentioned it to them?0 -
I have only spoken about getting a repair, not about anyhing else. I wanted to have an idea about whether it's worth pursuing a claim.
If it had been an engine part or other part I wouldn't have even thought about it, but a whole steering column - especially since the car has done less than 800 miles since purchase. I'm wondering if the fault was there to begin with, but obviously can't prove this. Dunno.
Thanks for replying though0 -
Why has the car only done 800 miles in the last 8 months, and why is it all of a sudden so urgent that you need it for work?0

Used cars are very much dependent on age and mileage of the car not just what you have done.
Normal wear and tear is not covered and getting a report to say it has an inherent fault from manufacture is almost impossible when a car is say 3-10 years old. A lot of things can happen in that time and it's part of the pitfalls of driving.
The 30 days they are referring to is what gives you automatic rejection rights for faulty goods in the first 30 days.
They are wrong to say you don't have a potential S75 claim as that's up to 6 years. But you have to first prove there has been a breach of contract.0 -

It's always been used for work; it's not too far each way (2.5-3miles), but it's not easy to get to by other means of transport and tools/computer equipment can't be easily transported when walking or going by push-bike (if I had one)
I know that even brand new cars can break down, so I know that nothing is infallible.
Thanksfor the replies everyone. I'll just get it sorted and next time buy a car with a longer warranty!
