Mortgage offer made - do we now need a date?

We've just had confirmation from our broker that our mortgage offer is in place. They've suggested we contact our solicitor for 'dates' and to see if there's any work outstanding.

I already know that the surveys are still underway. As yet no dates have been discussed for moving (I assumed this would just fall once surveys etc done).

Are the brokers just being pro-active? Do we really need to start bringing up moving dates?

    I wouldn't bother start thinking about dates yet. Has the solicitor started the searches yet? They will take a few weeks and needs to be done before discussing dates.

    When ready, your solicitor will ask you for your preferred completion dates then put them to the other solicitors. Once agreed upon, a compromise date can be adopted and contracts exchanged.

    That agreed date then becomes legally binding.

    Thanks all. I thought as much, I won't bother asking as seems pointless to me at this stage.
