UK Affordability still very good

You obviously didn't read link that house is £110k and a new 3bed affordable on thier minimum pay of £29k. There are over 700 properties below £110k in Doncaster and 63 under £50k.
You are looking at the cheapest houses in one of the cheapest towns in the countries. They are cheap because no one wants to live there, the new builds you are chucking up are across the road or often backing onto !!!! Areas full of drug dealers and anti social behaviour.
Iv settled on 130k-140k as what I'm happy to pay which means 13-14k deposit plus all fees involved mortgage fees solicitors surveyors and everyone else wanting to pick my pocket.
You shouldn't need a full years income at a full time reasonable job to buy a house that isn't surrounded by drug dens and idiots.
They are pumping millions into keeping house prices high. Whether it's the millions of pounds paid in housing benefits enticing all the landlords to buy any average house knowing they can definitely get a guaranteed rent price straight from the government. Help to buy is a sham so many people getting a 5 percent deposit on a highly inflated new build price with a 20 percent equity loan shackled round there neck.
Or right to buy selling off council stock pushing the person who would of had that house into the hands of landlords who can charge a fortune.
Lha in cleethorpes were I'm from rent houses out for 87 quid or whatever it is when comparable ones on the private sector Are 130 plus a week.
If housing was affordable they wouldn't need these stupid help to buy schemes to entice/enable young people to buy houses.
But you know I only need 1 year worth of income to buy a reasonable house.
There is no reason for houses to be this expensive except people in power want them expensive for there own benefit. Be there the million pound house or the numerous landlord friends who don't want to lose money0 -

It reminds me of when great ape 'proved' affordability in Croydon with the cheapest property he could find - a £175,000 studio in the middle of an area described as the second most dangerous place to live in the area:
"The most frequent crime reported was antisocial behaviour offences with 704 recorded. Violent and sexual offences were also prevalent, with 579 incidents reported during 2016."
This clown is still trumpeting affordability everywhere despite you needing a £37k deposit (20%) and a household income of £37k per year (4 x salary) to even think about purchasing such a bargain. Having grown up in the area I can tell you the only people making £37k a year are the ones who will do you an ounce of something naughty for £100 round the back of the Lidl.
If you want to meet your potential new neighbours, the video below was filmed about 100m away from great ape's first time buyer studio (CAUTION - contains very naughty language - not for the sensitive).

Honestly had the same arguement with my gf as I'm not from Doncaster and thought she was being picky. Houses I picked which were decent houses and cheap where all in ghettos.
Looking at 125k-135k for a semi decent house in an ok area which I think is far from affordable based on average income levels in Doncaster.
Also other issue is I can push myself to 135k but if interest rates decide to go up to any extent I'll be homeless in a far quicker period than the time it took me to save the deposit.0 -
some ghettos can gentrify into nice areas over time.0

Yer I'd rather not have my car damaged on a regular basis, my girlfriend scared to nip to the shops and tons of anti social behaviour from little scrotes who's parents didn't mind living in a ghetto.
On the off chance it gets gentrified0 -

Yes you can buy if you earn more than average, nobody disputes that. However if you are at the average, per the OP, then you can't. Don't forget if one half of your couple lose their jobs then the mortgage is going to be about half of the remaining workers' wage.
You are assuming that the couple earn well in excess of the median household income when the median individual wage is about 8k below that for the UK as a whole.
I'm not assuming anything. The poster I was replying to said that he and his woman between them took home ~£2500. Split equally that grosses up to £18k a year. Whatever that is versus the median - less if I am not mistaken - that is enough to borrow up to £144k and a loan of £135k to buy a house in sunny Donny would cost them 27% of their post-tax income. I'm struggling to see what's so insuperably hard about buying given where they are.0 -

Are none of the 400 properties between £100k and £130k in reasonable areas.0
