my parents did the same as you did but managed to save enough to gift.

how much did you contribute to your private pension?

I was lucky enough to have a final salary pension. Did they do it all on thier own without help when did they buy what did they earn how many kids did they have.

I have not lived like a monk but never had a new car, didn't holiday every year, don't drink or smoke.

i find it ammusing how GreatApe provides hard facts and data analysis and all WindofChange can do is say "oh no thats not possible because this newspaper said this and that". its really funny to read.

...yes I don't have the data because I cant find anything. so yes I have no proof at all, but I have a good idea that it is a lot more common then you think, simply by the numbers from my own family...

So they have become millionaires from your dad earning median wage and your mum working every now and again? They should write a book.

They must have lived like monks. I couldn't even afford to buy in London in 70s.

no they worked hard and saved but we went on holidays every year. they just didn't waste it on stupid stuff. as I said they got help for the deposit (which they paid back) which may explain the head start they got compared to you.

why write a book? this isn't uncommon for my parents generation. lot of it property wealth but also saving for many many years and compounded savings interest and investment returns. not difficult to do at all.

There you go UKCarper. Everyone in your generation had it easy - told you. Not uncommon for you to all be millionaires.
