DO NOT stay at Travelodge Sportscity.
worst one i have ever stayed in. booked 2 rooms for 4 girls. was in one alone just minutes after checking in when 2 men walked in on me...they were given the same room only 2 minutes after i checked in!
i could tell you everything, but the crowning glory was the block of toilet paper set on the breakfast buffet table when we asked for serviettes...
enough said.
told them what we thought on check out and was given all money back before we even asked for it.
£72 might sound a lot, but you will be staying in a city with some dodgy areas. you might save £10 - £20, but what will you get...?Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)0 -
Where is the concert? MEN arena or the Apollo?
The Ibis hotels are both about £50 and are both in the centre of town. I have stayed at the Jurys hotel a few times which is on great bridgewater street and is a good hotel and only a couple of minutes from most of the nightlife but is in a quieter area so no noise from the clubs etc.0 -

Sorry Debs66 but I must disagree with you.
You have had an unfortunate time but, believe me I have had errors over double bookings in five star hotels never mind a Travelodge. The toilet paper thing is not nice but it is not the end of the world....perhaps they had run out of napkins.
On a positive note, I always try to stay at Sportscity if I go to Manchester because:
1. Excellent position for a cheap bus or taxi ride into the city.
2. Four or five proper pubs (a dying breed!) within one hundred yards.
3. An all night garage adjoins.... handy for papers or anything you have forgot.
4. A real greasy spoon cafe just across the road (not for everyone, I know but another dying breed)
5. Really lovely staff who will help out with any reasonable problems
Sorry that you had a bad time but this travelodge is well worth a try. Be fair though....they admitted that they were not up to scratch when you went there and refunded all your money. I wish that bloody British Gas would only pay me the money that they owe me! However that is another story........
Best Wishes

Hi Terry W
I remember that little cozy pub close by. we actually went out to go to it but carried on walking when we were hassled by a group of blokes drinking outside. in fact, our entry into Manchester Sportscity area was highlighted by a lively refrain sung with gusto that followed us down the road. now how did it go?
oh yes..
'get your t**s out for the lads' :rotfl:
the day we left there was also the day the young lad shot and killed his sister in an accident with a gun stashed by the lad's mum - in a house in the estate directly behind the travelodge.
good on you if you're ok to live with the conditions for convenience, but as a woman advising a woman, i would not put her anywhere near it.
each to their own, that's all.Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)0 -
Hi Debs
I have to agree with you that for a single woman this would be very unpleasant and threatening. I am a great travelodge fan and I do tend to overlook faults which could upset other people. I spent last night at Nottingham Riverside - nice newish place but isolated from the city centre.
If you planning another trip with your girlfriends I can really recommend my local one - Newcastle Central as it slap bang in the centre of the Quayside and close to loads of slightly upmarket eating places and nice pubs and yet handy for the cultural activites of this fine city (that's enough advertising of Newcastle...Ed!)
By the way, I think that the estate next to Sportcity was used for episodes of Shameless. But then Manchester is used a great deal by film-makers these days.
The latest Travelodge promotion (£9) is excellent....I have booked over 30 for the summer months.
best wishes

cheers for the tips Terry
i never shy away from a travelodge as they usually offer decent value for a one night stay. i have never quite experienced anything like the Sportscity one though ! :rotfl:
it was a bit like a scene from The Young Ones - a sort of student bedsit version of Travelodge!
will come a looking for you if in need of a good one to stay at!
