Appealing a Train Fine

Hello,
I was recently issued a £404 fine for not being able to display a ticket when leaving my final destination train station - I had left it on the train, assuming I didn't need it anymore.
Does anybody know how I can appeal this?

Need more details - were you issued the fine on the spot or by post? Which stations?0

Yes you can appeal but your appeal will fail as you needed to show your ticket at the station when you arrived there.
Assuming you did not need it after you departed the train is no excuse as t & c's on train travel indicates you must have a valid travel ticket for your WHOLE journey {ie... from entry to the platform and the start to departure of your platform at the end} and that was something you did not do so no proof you even had a travel ticket in the first place.0 -

You're right, obviously, hang on to your ticket, but the means of leaving the station is so hit and miss a passenger can hardly be blamed for thinking 'job done' as he steps off the train.0 -
It's a shame there's no way of knowing whether there will be any means of showing your ticket at the station, ie will it be manned, will there be automatic barriers and, if so, will they be left wide open?
Assume every station has barriers and take your ticket with you, its not difficult. You can then place the ticket in the bin on the way out of the station too.0 -

I thought a penalty fare was £20.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Will give you a yes/no for ticket gates. You're right, obviously, hang on to your ticket, but the means of leaving the station is so hit and miss a passenger can hardly be blamed for thinking 'job done' as he steps off the train.
Yes they can. If "there's no way of knowing whether there will be any means of showing your ticket at the station, ie will it be manned, will there be automatic barriers and, if so, will they be left wide open?" what sort of thougt process would lead them to think "you now what, I'll just leave my ticket on the seat and take a gamble"0 -

The other £384 was for littering by leaving a ticket on the train.
Whaaaat!? Is this for real? I've never known anyone being done for littering a train because they left a ticket on it?
I can only assume you haven't travelled on a train for many years if you thought you wouldn't need it to exit the station but you are saying they believed you did indeed have a ticket because they fined you for leaving it on the train?0 -

Yes it is the new rule on all trains, the litter costing is now based on the size of it in micro meters and how much printing is on the item. It is expected to rise inline with inflation year on year so a warning to all that "throw away" their ticket before leaving the arrival station exit:whistle:0 -
There is a specialised forum here where you will get sensible help, but it has already been said that you are obliged to carry your ticket all the way to the exit of your final destination station, and the revenue protection inspectors have heard every reason you or I could think of from people arriving there without a ticket in their possession, so they will treat everyone exactly the same.0
