Scottish Widows Policy

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can advise.. I have written to Scottish Widows regarding 2 policies my mother in law has and which were sold when she took out a loan - Critical Illness with life cover; and Life Cover.
They responded saying that the policies she has are life covers and not PPI and that this is as far as their enquiry goes. Never mind the fact how she was sold (clearly being forced to taking the cover etc etc)... I seem to remember one of Martin's tv shows, which also mentions Insurance cover and i even think he mentioned SW in it and how these can also be claimed. Can anyone advise on whether there is any point in going back to them? Thanks

Life Insurance is no more PPI than car insurance. Critical Illness is no more PPI than Home Contents insurance.
It's very important to understand that not every insurance is PPI and not even every PPI policy was mis-sold.

Clearly they are not PPI. So, they are quite correct in their response.Never mind the fact how she was sold (clearly being forced to taking the cover etc etc
And what evidence does she have to support that allegation? Note that it is an allegation that loses credibility every month after the point of sale as people who are sold too hard tend to complain very quickly after and also tend to exercise the cancellation rights they are sent.I seem to remember one of Martin's tv shows, which also mentions Insurance cover and i even think he mentioned SW in it and how these can also be claimed.
Martin would not name a life assurance company by name in one of his shows in respect of PPI.Can anyone advise on whether there is any point in going back to them?
Nothing on what you have said, no.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks for your responses. I will try and find the programme, which i watched and made me decide to write to SW on behalf of my mother in law (I am sure it was around Jan / Feb - so should easily find it)
In terms of my mother in law being missold it - a few reasons e.g. she was told it was compulsory and when my M-i-L remained undecided the salesman said "Well, you cannot back down now, how will it look to my superiors, if I don’t get your custom"...
Anyway.. thanks for your input....0 -

Evidence of that?
Life assurance sold by banks has a much better audit trail than PPI. Life assurance would have a factfind, needs analysis and report issued. PPI has none of those. So, you have documentary evidence from the bank vs no evidence from your mother. Banks sell life assurance under an advised process. PPI is not sold under an advised process.
Complaints about hard sell do tend to lack evidence but they do tend to be made quite quickly after the sale and the person uses the cancellation rights when they are issued. The longer it takes for the person to complain, the less credible that "hard sell" argument is to take seriously. So, if the sale was in the last few months, even without evidence, your mother would be quite credible. If it was a year ago, less so. How long ago was this?
Looking at PPI, around half the complaints made do not even have PPI. yet the people making the complaints allege all sorts of things were said by the staff member. Clearly they are telling lies. So, when people make allegations of what was said, there has to be balance taken to whether that was likely or not. They cannot accept what your mother says happened as gospel.
I have succeeded on complaints about life assurance sold by banks before. However, the focus on each has been about suitability. Not allegations of what was or wasnt said that cannot be proven.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Your Mother In Law doesn't appear to have been mis-sold Life and Critical Illness Insurance either. Your complaint was an unsubstantiated accusation of hard selling.
Unless you can show that this insurance was somehow unsuitable for your relative's needs, I can't see you progressing this any further. Scottish Widows have already closed your "complaint"0
