Get your POPLA code, give them as much as possible to rebut your POPLA appeal (using post #3 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky) and there is a growing tendency by PE to throw in their cards - you win.

But you have to weigh up the 'cost' of research and development of your appeal and the potential lottery of POPLA, and (despite it sticking in the throat) sending off a grubby, bacteria laden 20 pound note!

Attempt at photos of signs. If these appear clear then I will give up and go with the £20,
What about this last throw of the dice tomorrow or Friday - I would:
maybe I should try contacting the hotel's general manager?

We had someone last week whose PCN was *reduced* to £20 as well, same as you, and they then complained to the landowner and it was then completely cancelled. Or, if the Hotel will not cancel it, ask to speak personally to the Manager. At least negotiate, will the Hotel make a goodwill gesture of their own and pay the £20 OR meet you half way at a tenner each - OR offer you a discount of £25 from a future stay/meal, to more than cover your loss and to encourage you to visit again?

And make sure the Manager notes how unfair and unfit for purpose this punitive regime is, if they want repeat business.

They need to understand that Parking firms (unlike their hapless clients, fooled into thinking they need a protection racket from notorious firms) do not have a customer service ethic because they do not have consumer customers. The penny needs to drop with Hotels, Hospitals, Supermarkets et al that these firms DAMAGE customer relations irretrievably.

I suspect that £20 is also the amount Parking Eye charge the hotel if they request a cancellation of the charge.

Visited the hotel. They are not the landowner and do not know who is. Their guests have to pay the same rates and they have signs in the hotel warning guests to correctly enter their car reg. to avoid charges from the parking management company.

The only thing they could offer me was a generic correspondence email at PE to see if they would tell me who the landowner is. I can't imagine I could get this done before the goodwill offer ends on Wednesday with the current bank holiday.

Can anyone offer any insight into whether the tariff signs linked in a previous post are NOT clear therefore giving me a chance of winning through POPLA, or whether they appear crystal clear and therefore I should cough-up the £20?

How the sign appeared where I was stood - I was looking to pay cash for 16 hours from 5 am on a weekday (friday):

No mention of having to input a VTN anywhere.

No mention of what the ANPR data will be used for (BPA CoP breach.)

I would go for inadequate signage plus all the other usual appal points available from post 3 of the NEWBIES.

Is it possible to get pics of the car park entrance, and pics of the signs without using flash?

Was the £20 offer marked "without prejudice"? If not, should they be daft enough to take this to court, it could be used to your advantage.

You might well pay the £20 - I wouldn't judge you for that as PE are not worth your time and worry - then get sweet revenge by sending formal complaints about this scam industry, to your MP and the DCLG (Marcus Jones) and Dept for Transport (Andrew Jones).

I agree with CM. Pay the £20 (as I hinted in my previous post, #12), then exact your revenge once your case is confirmed closed by PE.

The letter does indeed say 'without prejudice'. What is the significance of this wording?

Also states that non-payment will cause charge to be increased back to £100 but also that non-payment may cause appeal to be rejected and POPLA code to be produced (which sounds contradictory to me)?
