Piano to voice converter?

Is there an app that will convert something played on the piano to a vocal sound? (For iPad).

I have looked in the App Store, but the descriptions of some of the Apps aren't enough to tell me if that's what they do. I don't mind a reasonable cost, but I don't want to keep spending out on Apps that turn out to be unsuitable, so was wondering if anyone knew of such a thing?

I've tried various google inputs, but only get voice to instrument converters, the opposite of what I want!

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you playing and recording an actual piano or is it an app piano?

It might be easier to find a recording studio app, something that you can record with then manipulate the recording as you wish.

Or is it a midi app you are looking for?

Here are some pages that might be able to help you.

I would prefer to record from an actual piano, but I do have an app piano if necessary. I also have a four-track recording App, and an eight-track recording app, but neither manipulates the sound to a voice, nor can I edit the recordings from them.

I'm afraid I don't know what a MIDI app is!

Thanks for the links, I'll take a look.

I would suggest looking for a DAW - Digital Audio Workstation app. These are studios where you have the recording section and then a processing and mixing section.

Here are another few pages that might lead you to something.

Regarding midi, it would be easier to look at the link agrinnall posted, it explains it well.

I had a read through all those links, but I can't find anything that indicates it would convert piano notes to vocals. :(

    Perhaps it doesn't exist!

Oh well, thanks for trying guys! :A

Music isn't really my thing, but if I've understood this correctly you want to take a recording of a piano piece and convert it into a vocal / choral(?) piece?

I know of no software to do that, the difficult bit would be figuring out exactly which keys are being pressed at any one time from the recording and how loud each note within the chord(s) is/are compared to the others, once that has been worked out, transposing each one to a different instrument (in this context, the voice is another instrument) is relatively straightforward.

Using an electric piano with a voice preset or a MIDI keyboard connected to a software synthesizer of some kind to make the recording would be more straightforward. Mine (that I still haven't got around to organising any lessons so I can actually use it) will do a choral effect copied from a Mellotron, so I could "play" a choir. If I could play it at all :o .

You need to play the piece on a MIDI keyboard, and use it to trigger a sampler with some vocal samples.

They'll only go 'Ahhhh' and 'Oooohhh', no lyrics.

Thanks, Googler. When you say a Midi keyboard, is that an App or a piece of hardware? If the latter, can you recommend a good retailer?

    Similarly, what is a sampler?

As you've probably guessed, I am a novice at all of this, but am willing to learn.
