Wilko charges for using a credit card

Having looked on my monthly John Lewis card that I use for household shopping I discovered that Wilko's charge a fee for using a credit card under a specific amount. I have never seen any information displayed in Wilko's to warn shoppers of the fees though or I wouldn't have used my card! (£2 charge per transaction). Has anyone else come across this, and can I ask for my money to be reimbursed if they have not displayed an explanation of this charge in the shop?

Puzzled about discovering this from a statement - are you saying that a £2 fee shows as a separate entry on your statement, as opposed to being included within the overall transaction value that you'd (presumably) have authorised when paying in store at the time, and that would have been reflected on the receipt?

If so, that would make it (the separate £2 fee) an unauthorised transaction that you could dispute via John Lewis, but if you authorised payment of the inflated figure at the time then you're on weaker ground. However, as you say, they should display a sign, worth checking next time you're there and if there isn't one, complain to them....

Quite easily, there are lots of companies that charge for using a credit card.

British Airways for example charge if you pay by credit card.

The problem is that it should be obvious that the charges apply by displaying in store or online before you buy.

OP, I would call your credit card company and ask them as I have never been charged when I shop online at Wilko so I assume store policy should be the same?

Have you been back to the shop and had a careful look around - it may only be a small notice by the tills. If there is a lot of other stuff around, you may not have noticed it.

I spent £2 in there this morning, paid by contactless CC, no additional fee charged.

I think the OP is confused.

Having looked on my monthly John Lewis card that I use for household shopping I discovered that Wilko's charge a fee for using a credit card under a specific amount.
How exactly did you make this discovery by 'looking at your monthly John Lewis card'?
I assume that you mean you checked your statement and found either the amount billed was £2 more than your receipt or there had been a second £2 charge.
If the former dispute the charge on the grounds that the amount billed does not agree with the amount authorised.
If the latter, HOW did the store process the second charge without the cardholder knowing about it. Are we to believe that there is somebody in a back room somewhere using the info on the merchant copy of the receipts to put through a second £2 cardholder not present transaction every time anybody uses a card?
Secondly, how could the OP know what this £2 charge was allegedly for? A second charge would just have shown the name of the store, same as the first. There is no way it could have read 'credit card charge' or words to that effect.

I've never been charged a fee in Wilko either. You didn't buy a £2 lottery ticket did you, OP? Maybe that's what the £2 is for.

The charge would have been on the receipt given to you at the till.

Wilko's T&Cs make no mention of a charge for payment by card. Unless individual stores are allowed to have different T&Cs then I suspect that the OP has misinterpreted the CC bill.
