Microsoft office and windows installer problem

Hi there

We are having problems since installing Office 2007 onto one of our computers. It's easier (I think) if I say what we have done:

We had Office 2000 Pro originally but also had Outlook 2002 (came as part of the software for my pocket pc).

I installed Office 2007, telling it to upgrade (on the laptop that got rid of Office 2000 and we've had no issues with it - but then we didn't have Outlook 2002 on that one).

When I tried to use Outlook 2007, Windows Installer would try and install the older version, asking for the disc. This then started happening every time I opened any Office program and when we started up the computer. It would take several 'cancels' to make it go and then only until I tried to open Office! We cannot remove it as it says some patch is missing and we need to verify this patch is authentic?

So, unable to delete Outlook 2002, I did a system restore to try and start again! Our antivirus could not update as it kept saying something else was installing at the time so I thought a system restore may help get the computer out of this loop.

Well, it didn't work! We had the same issue when back to Office 2000!

So, we decided to insert our original Office 2000 disc and uninstall the program with the disc. We also tried to uninstall Outlook 2002 with the original disc. Office 2000 has been removed ok but Outlook 2002 is persisting with the patch message above!

Now Office 2007 is saying it cannot update because a file is missing (something to do with an earlier version) and it tells us we may also not be able to uninstall earlier versions (spot on there!). It also keeps saying that Outlook has a conflict with another version of Outlook.

Now we don't know what to do!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions please? It is an XP btw.

    Have copied the message now:

"This patch could not be opened. Verify the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package."

    Does that help any? confused-smiley-013.gif

We have just allowed it to download a programme every now and then to sort out problems and it has at last updated (11 of them!) but it has made no difference.

Sounds like you will have to uninstall everything to do with any Office product on your computer and start fresh.

That's the problem. It just won't allow us to uninstall Outlook 2002.

We have tried reinstalling it from the original disc to see if that will solve the 'patch' problem but we can't do that either.

We can remove (and have) everything from Office 2000 but it's the Outlook 2002 that is causing problems.
