Slow Internet at Night

At night, the internet takes an age to load every page, and is barely usable.
In the day it is instant.
Is everyones unusable or should I switch ISP?

  • Take a look at the ISP forums at https://www.thinkbroadband.com and you will see which ones have speed issues at night.
I use Newnet which doesn't retrict or throttle connection speeds at all, costs slightly more but at least it works when I need it.
Problems with your line however will follow you from ISP to ISP so check this out http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/lowSNR.htm as well.

    Either
    1) Your ISP can't cope with the traffic
    2) or you're on a lower rate package and the ISP implements "traffic shaping" which gives the most bandwidth to those on the top packages.
    3) or the ADSL line you're on is running at full contention (usually in cities). You are aware that you share your ADSL line with up to 50 other people and that at peak times, the speeds can be slower than dial up?

On AOL, on top package now they have changed them, and in a little village.
  • No problem here, I use Plusnet which I have not had any problems with. :)

also depends which sites you visit. at night the yanks come online and can slow everything down, due to the huge numbers involved. some servers cannot cope.
test, by trying the bbc site at night. not many yanks on there.
    Get some gorm.
