Hi
On a barn conversion self build, my drawings give 70mm insulation board tight between the rafters, Im ok with that. Another 40mm board over this placed on the rafters with the 12.5mm plasterboard fixed over. How do I fix the 40mm insulation board, should i fix it indapendent of the plasterboard or is there a way of fixing both together if I use battons I will be out to almost 80mm off the rafters
any guidance will be much appreciated

Go to local builders merchants and ask about the metal channel system for fixing plasterboard ceilings.
It is easy, first screw metal brackets to beams, then clit metal channels to clips, then screw plasterboard to metal channels using special selftapping screws.
I am an amateur but managed it. The system here in France is made by the plasterboard makers Placoplatre but I am sure it is available in UK.
The channels are about 50mm wide and only 12mm deep and it works out cheaper than using wood.0 -
