written off car repaired

Options
hi all... you are my last hope... long story short.. i was involved in an accident and my car looked fine, the next day i couldn't close the boot.so i visited a garage and they put me in touch with collision solutions. i explained to them and the garage that it my car(54 plate peugeot 206) if it was able to be written off i didn't want it back..2 weeks later i messaged my solicitor to find out what was happening to my car. only to be told it was repaired and in the assessors report had written the car off.but i'd stated i wanted it to be repaired at all cost. we never had that conversation ..so he agreed to a fixed price repair on my car.. which i knew nothing about..what can i do. i don't want this car back

It's not for the policyholder to decide how the claim is dealt with - if you read your policy you will see the insurer holds the cards!

Always worth making a complaint, but if you don't want the car back maybe put it up for sale??

I'm surprised they're doing more than trivial repairs to a 13yo 206, but there we go. Still - "looked fine, next day boot wouldn't close" may well be an utterly trivial repair.

At the end of the day, the insurer's decision is final. If you don't want the car after it's repaired, you're free to sell it.
  • Guessing the car was rear ended, and all that was needed to get the boot working again was a simple adjustment of the closing mechanism which may have been disturbed in the shunt.
