Blackout blinds or curtains?

So I've just bought my first house, moved in, and in the main bedroom I quickly realised that the sun beams through the window in the morning which isn't convenient.

I have a normal curtain up, which was left in the house, but it lets in far too much light for me. Having heard of these "blackout" solutions I just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with them and if curtains or blinds are better

I've eyed up this curtain

and this blind

In people's experience, which one would do the job better?

Third Option - blackout lining from Dunelm
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • I have black out blinds in all bedrooms as well as dark curtains with extra lining so the sun does not get through as much.

If you want to choose one or the other, I find blinds block out more light as you get less light spilling round the edges, depending on how you fit them. That only really matters if you need all of the light blocked out though. If it's just to make it easier to use the computer or something, curtains should be fine so just go with whatever you prefer the look/price of.

Ikea is good for cheap but nice blinds and curtains.

It's more for sleeping than anything else, light to the computer etc would be blocked out from the current (crappy) blinds that are there.

Thanks for the suggestions though people, sounds like either could do the job then...

It's generally a question of aesthetics; pick whatever you prefer.

    Curtain.
I've got both at home, but I need to cut a bit of blind myself as it do not fit the bay. do-able, but curtain is the easier option.

Curtains for me, they let the air in too.
