SysteMate 2000 thermal store/boiler issue

Hi all,

I've got a funny issue with my heating system and as I've seen a number of posts related to the SysteMate 2000 / BoilerMate 2000 systems I wondered if anybody might have any ideas...

We're renting our flat, and it has a SysteMate 2000 thermal store unit to provide hot water. So far as I can see, it has an internal sealed water store that it keeps up to temperature by automatically turning the boiler on and off as needed, and when hot water is needed for heating and showering/etc, piped cold-source water passes through the sealed internal store to heat up.

For the first year or so, we didn't seem to have any issues. Now however things have changed. Connected to the SysteMate (somehow) we have a wall thermostat to control central heating temperature. Now sometimes when we turn the thermostat up above the current detected temperature (i.e. the internal switch clicks to 'on') instead of the SysteMate pumping water it repeatedly clicks on and off every second or so; the boiler itself clicks on and off at the opposite times, so that at any moment only one of the two is working, as follows:

(S = SysteMate 2000 ; B = Boiler)
S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S_S
_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B_B

I think instead it should be doing the following:
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
BBBBB_________________BBBB______

I.e. constantly pumping hot water, and only heating up its own thermal store using the boiler when required.

Further info - the cold fill tank on top of the unit has a reasonable level of water in (not super clean), and the boiler has been set to medium power as long as I can remember; I've never poked it to change it.

So, MSE-ers, any idea what on earth might be wrong with our heating system? I would have thought a wiring fault as described by some previous posters ( https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/203796/heating-hot-water-problem ) but I don't think we have any problems with hot water in taps, and I don't think the problem existed when we moved in about 18 months ago...

What's changed in the 18 months since you've moved in, if it was working fine then?

I have to admit that I stripped out our boilermate as soon as we moved in, and replaced it with a standard boiler and cylinder, so don't have any real hands on experience with it.

These gledhill tanks need the boiler thermostat turned to max. If the store doesn't get up to a set temperature, seem to remember it's up round 70ish then the heating will not come on.

Try turning right up and see if it sorts it, if not you need to get the landlord to get some one into look at it.
